Community Volunteering
Inspiring children to readWhat we ask ARCh volunteers to do
After sucessfully completing our application, interview and checking process volunteers attend two initial training sessions and make a commitment to volunteer for at least a year.
ARCh volunteers come from all sorts of backgrounds. No experience is necessary.
All they need is to:
- have good communication skills
- like children
- enjoy reading
- be patient and adaptable
- be over 18
How we train & support volunteers
Initial training covers topics including:
- how children learn to read
- the problems they can face
- examples of books and games to use
- safeguarding
We provide books and games, with the opportunity to exchange them regularly. Resources are personalised to suit each childs ability and interests.
We pay travelling expenses between home and school.
We introduce volunteers into their school and provide ongoing support in the form of school visits, ongoing training and meetings each term.
